Module 4: Holistic Anatomy & Physiology Part 1 |
|
This course provides a thorough grounding in Anatomy and Physiology that embraces both a practical and holistic understanding of the human body. Beginning from the premise that the body and all its constituent systems not only take form and function physically but also act as repositories for the stories and life experiences of the individual, the course material will examine the concept of a "psychosomatic unity" (Reich) in conjunction with clinical theory and major pathologies. Each session will include, theory, hands-on work and movement practice as a means to embodied learning. Please note that seminars on SKIN and CELL will be integrated into the first weekend of Module 3. CIRCULATORY FLUIDS: cellular, interstitial, lymphatic, blood, cerebrospinal; connective tissue, fat, synovial fluid – will be introduced in relevant seminars and integrated into the last weekend of Module 3

Seminars 1, 2 & 3: SKELETAL SYSTEM & CONNECTIVE TISSUE General introduction to the study of anatomy and physiology Development, structure and function of bone; the three layers of bone Bones and joints; types of joints, their function and alignment The skeleton - function of individual bones; emotional function of bone Skeletal structure and energy; palpating bone Synovial fluid Connective tissue: fascial sheaths, tendons, and ligaments: differentiation and integration of structures and systems October 10, November 7, December 12, 2008, Friday from 10-30am – 1-30pm
Seminar 4: ORGAN SYSTEMS: CARDIOVASCULAR & RESPIRATORY Heart, blood, blood vessels, and circulation Lungs, pleura, diaphragm; movements and regulation of respiration Breathing as a bridge between conscious and unconscious processes January 9, 2009, Friday from 10-30am – 1-30pm
Seminar 5: ORGAN SYSTEMS; DIGESTIVE Gastrointestinal tract - mouth, stomach, intestines; liver, gall bladder, pancreas Digestion, absorption and metabolism of food Emotional function of organs February 6, 2009, Friday from 10-30-am – 1-30pm
Seminar 6: ORGAN SYSTEMS: UROGENITAL Structure and function of kidneys and bladder Structure and function of reproductive organs March 6, 2009, Friday from 10-30am – 1-30pm
Seminar 7 & 8: MUSCLE SYSTEM Structure, function and action of muscle tissue; smooth and striated muscle; nerve innervation, neuromuscular junctions, reflex responses Anatomy of the muscular system Functions and actions of specific muscle groups Movement and sensation; muscle spindles and golgi tendon organs The repatterning of unconscious neuromuscular patterns April 3, May 8, 2009, Friday from 10-30am – 1-30pm
Cost: £220. Deposit £70. This course is open to participants not taking Module 3.
Venue: The course will be offered in a beautiful hall in the picturesque village of Ashdon, Saffron Walden, about 15 miles south of Cambridge. It is easily accessed by road and rail from London and Cambridge, and is less than half an hour from Stansted Airport. There are various possibilities for affordable accommodation in the area; details of these will be given on booking.
